And yet as people are cheering the parade, the soldiers who *did* give their lives for their country/Putin's mad dream are abandoned in a train and nobody from Russia wants to bring them home.

During the war with Chechnya, the Russians pretty much abandoned their dead, leaving them unidentified in freezer tractor trailers.  Their famiies  had to go through the trailers to find their loved ones.  So this is nothing new.  I am also not surprised that the Russians just left the bodies for the Ukrainians to deal with.  Total lack of respect for their own people in order to make things more difficult for Ukraine.  Disgusting.

The Ukrainians owe these Russian soldiers nothing, they invaded their country and nobody would've accused Ukraine of anything if they stacked the bodies on top of each other and burnt them.

... but they didn't. They showed humanity and respect, even to those who didn't deserve it. This is what humanity looks like, Ukrainians should be remembered as such. As people with a big heart, unwavering bravery and above else, for never losing their humanity irregardless of the circumstances.

This may be difficult. I hope I do not anger anyone, but it seems to me that these dead and wounded Russian soldiers are very much the victims of Putin's insane war as are the Ukrainian victims.

Mostly likely almost all of the bodies have relatives who, once this war is passed, will need closure.  Yes, they are the aggressors in the war, but it's become clear now that many of these soldiers in the first waves had no idea they were being sent into a war zone and were simply cannon fodder.  Certainly, they had no input into the decision making and are in some ways victims themselves. Lay these misled soldiers to rest with dignity and decency that Russians would never do.

Now that Spring has arrived, those train cars will become very warm...making the contents of the body bags very grim - and also a health hazard.  Not sure if there is a fast way of taking identifying information if no id on the body, but perhaps finger prints from each corpse plus a DNA sample (not sure how this is done...taking a tooth perhaps?) with a notation of cause of death if possible (to prevent them being classified as deserters or cowards-rather than KIA).  Then the corpse could be buried or cremated.  The information could be placed into a data base for family members to research.

Not validating or endorsing what these soldiers did to Ukraine in any way, but there is no need to sink to the barbarity of the Russians.

Edit: Have seen comments to the effect that Russia should take care of their dead - and they are correct if this was an ideal world.  However Russia *isn't* doing this for their dead citizens, which leaves the challenge of disposing of these remains squarely in Ukraine's lap.

theres 2 ways to think about this and both are not so wrong considering the war. We see this war is hitting Russia hard and I hope they leave Ukraine soon. It is also so sad that they just have total disregard to human life, even their own soldiers. I'm getting increasingly a sense that to the oligarchs in Moscow and St Pete,  these mostly rural,  often eastern troops are 'not really Russian.'  Expendable.  Unimportant.   Getting a feel here of a 'little Russia' elite,  like 'little England' (the home counties)  in the UK -- their kids get deferrals,  other ppl's kids get fed into the meat grinder. .   But my knowledge of Russia is very trivial so it's just a hunch.

I don’t think Russia is going to take over Ukraine. Like yeah they would beat Ukraine but the price would be way too high. The Ukraine Army isn’t the same as it was in 2014, they got teeth now. I think it would end in a situation where they would hold the eastern part hostage trying to make them autonomous regions in Ukraine and gaining influence indefinitely.

I'll say it again, as much as I hate bringing up America in this situation and seemingly trying to make us into the center of attention, there is something that EU and our allies desperately need to realize and be discussing right now, because Russia and others surely are.

The EU and other countries need to come together right now and truly recognize the severity of the internal issues the US is going through, and understand how rapidly and drastically the political landscape of the near-future could change depending on how our internal issues play out, if EU powers aren't ready to compensate for it.

America's population and government are deeply, deeply divided, and distracted with serious internal issues that are only getting worse. A significant amount of the government voted to overturn the most recent election, tens of millions of people truly believe that the elections are rigged and are on the verge of revolting because of small relatively small political differences and a lot of Facebook propaganda.

The point is, civil war or intense internal power struggles are absolutely not out of the question, anyone saying otherwise is in denial, and other powers like Russia and China undoubtedly realize it and are keeping a close eye on any opportunities that could potentially arise, and the EU absolutely need to be doing the exact same thing.

I don't know what is going to happen, but these issues are only getting worse, and there is no telling where we might be in a few years after another election cycle and wave of anger and propaganda. This shit would massive ramifications of the political landscape of the entire world, including Europe, the EU and others need to recognize and be discussing this shit right fucking now, and be ready to fill a potential power vacuum if the worst case scenario happens.
